Writers Write…Right?
Yes…we do, but that’s not all.
Even if, all you’ve ever done is write and file (your screenplays in multiple boxes that end up in the attic or down in the basement), you are “still” more than a writer. Your story is the blueprint needed to construct a movie. It’s the recipe for a delicious tale. It’s even the first line of defense in the battle for the big screen (or small screen).
You, the Writer, make it possible for all trades in the FAV (Film and Video) industry to exist (Read: NO SCREENPLAY=No need for a Lighting crew, No need for Sound, No need for a DP/Cinematographer, No need for a Director, No need for Talent). So… you are not just a writer.
You are a creator; a “source” even. From your brain comes magic, motive and mystique. From your heart comes the selflessness to share what your brain has released in your being…but what if there are “no” takers? What if no one wants to partner with you so that you can share? You’ve created these places and/or people who have elaborate stories and now you want to share them with the masses…and you know (beyond a shadow of a doubt), others want to know these people and their stories. So why aren’t the Movie Gods asking…begging even…to fund your story so that you can tell it to the masses?
There are many answers to that question, but spending time on “why” doesn’t give us the answer to “How”. How (to manifest a movie) is what’s important and “How” is what we will explore across this website. Through each post and exercise you will prove to yourself that writers do more than write…when they want to get their screenplays off the paper and onto the screen.
Thanks for coming aboard. It’s going to be an amazing journey.
Intentionally,
Lakeshia
